About Salem
| Visitors' Center - From I-81 take exit 141. Follow the signs to Salem. From the exit ramp, take Virginia route 419 South. Continue on route 419 through two traffic lights. After the second light veer to the right following the Salem Civic Center sign onto Texas Street, also known as the 460 Bypass and the Truck Route. The Salem Visitor's Center is located inside the lobby of the Salem Civic Center which is part of the James E. Taliaferro Sports & Entertainment Complex. The complex is centrally located at 1001 Roanoke Boulevard (corner of Roanoke Boulevard and Texas Street). For more information phone 1-888-827-2536. |
Dixie Caverns - To visit these unusual caverns you go up into the mountain rather than (the usual) down. Beautifully lit, easy to walk passageways, the guided tour takes about an hour. |
