  Salina is a lot of things - and has a lot of attractions. We were surprised to learn, however, that Salina is well known for its many antiques shops. At the other end of the shopping spectrum is their Central Mall at South 9th and Magnolia Streets. In addition to the expected stores (and multi-screen movie theatre), the Central Mall contains a well-endowed aquarium which, incidentally, has the largest, free-standing fish tank in Kansas.   Of interest to the younger set is the Lakewood Discovery Center. Not the usual, hands-on science museum, Lakewood maintains a unique setting designed to further kids natural curiosity and interest in animals and plants. Here they can learn bird identification, the life cycles of insects and how urban wildlife survives.
  And the exhibits of wildlife is not limited to Lakewood. On Hedville Road is the Rolling Hills Zoo. Nearly one hundred species of animals are maintained in a beautiful landscaped environment.
  And, of course, there are many museums and art galleries.
